RE: Pop-up TC -- any comments?

do they say "Land O Lakes"
Do they.....or did they??? :W
Easy to move aside when ready to travel and stack nicely on the dinette bed or floor. Depending on if traveling and want to be able to get inside for a lunch stop. Just keep the heavier one on the bottom. :S

Mine is a '96 model - 7 foot. Been happy with it so far. Looks like the same layout. I payed less about two years ago, but I do not have the AC and I feel I got a good deal locally. When I was looking it was difficult to find one in good shape without AC for under $1500. Bids on ebay kept climbing over what I wanted to spend.
Sorry about some of the blurry pics, but thought you might be interested in some interior shots. I can try to take a few additional interior shots if you like, but would need to keep the top down due to the weather today and upcoming.

RE: Fog and TC Friends on the Maine Coast

Looks like all had a great time. I know the weather you experienced. Camped in it as well here in Connecticut this past weekend. It's amazing what you can overlook as far as conditions when you are around good friends....and a warm fire. Looking forward to seeing all again soon.

RE: $6600 for new Palomino Bronco, any advice?

I have a shadow cruiser pop-up and it can be raised and lowered in under 5 minutes. Seems like there is a great deal for $$. Mine is raised and lowered from the inside. If I remember correctly from when I was looking at campers, the palomino cranks open from the outside. Good luck with your choice.

Need more space in your TC - Buy a Japanese Pop-up

Feeling like you need more space in your TC? How about a second story? Check out this Japanese pop-up. Not actually a TC, but imagine the possibilities.

RE: "Best Meals in a Truck Camper"

I also wonder if you have any tricks for handling the smaller fridge.
I usually start with a 9-12 (12oz) bottles placed on their side on the bottom shelf, facing in and out like a puzzle. Since they are all together, I do not have to fumble through the fridge when quenching the pallet. Must get the important things in first. Rotate as often as possible but definitely restock when getting down to 6.
We often repackage food into zip-locks or foil as it can be manipulated in shape to fit in even the tiniest places, even between the beer bottles. I usually cut the egg carton into smaller pieces to hold 4-6 eggs depending on the trip. Can take out the eggs I need and discard the carton. Do not use any special containers for butter, leave it in the original rapper and fold it closed as it gets smaller. We have packed full meals (for two) for a week plus in there.
As for meals: We eat as good, if not better than at home. Most dinners are cooked outside because we use the grill. A few years back, while traveling through California in a tent, I started making LOS Omelettesfor my wife and continue today (after removing the smoke detector :). No Spanish connection....Left Over Surprise....Sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and anything left over that we were afraid of spoiling (salmon, chicken, avocado, steak, sausage, black beans, refried beans....) Of course we must have bacon and or sausage on the side. She never knows what she will be getting. Sometimes I do similar as mentioned by placing in tortilla wraps as well. We eat a lot of eggs.
Since we are camping, we tend to take enjoyment in the cooking and cook most from scratch. It is not like we do not have time for the water to boil and cook rice. We usually keep left overs for the travel days as they can be a quick heat. Here are a few picks of the grill:
Salmon and corn with a view of the St. Lawrence overlooking Quebec City (Why would I want to be IN the camper?)

Enjoying a few Lobsters in November
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p125/richandliz/Truck%20Camper/DSCN1116.jpg
Sauteed some Sausage, Red & Green Peppers, Red & Yellow Onions, and Garlic with rice and a huge salad while enjoying a concert at this vineyard in VT. This was done inside the camper and many were peeking in wanting to buy some as they walked by. Good thing we had the pop-up to air it out.:B

RE: North-East Truck Camping "Haunted" Jamboree

Welcome Alex - 'yet another pop-up' ...
Glad to see our numbers are growing and that pop-ups will be represented. :B You'll be welcomed with open arms. It's a great group. Hope you make other jamborees. Unfortunately, Liz and I will not be able to attend this weekend. Enjoy and best of times to all attending. Looking forward to the pictures.

Looking Good!!! You certainly did a nice job!
Did you recreate it as is or did you decide to make custom changes? How long did it take? Did you log a cost for the redo?

Hey there Boo Boo!
Please let Ranger Smith and Cindy know that Rich and Liz and I got home safe and are unpacked. We all had such a great time at the rally. Thanks to Elizabeth and Dick for hosting such a great job! It was great meeting so many new people.
Also tell Ted to stick with the Bison and keep away from bear meat!!! It is definitely not as good :)

RE: North-East Truck Camping Jamboree (FALL 2008)

Well, we both took the day off on Friday and planning to escape the kiddies early tomorrow. Cycle schedule day has me having an end of the day planning period, preceding with lunch and a 'study type' period. A partner has offered to cover so if all goes as planned we'll be on the road by 2 -2:30 and rolling in somewhere around 7 - 7:30. Going out to finish the packing. Not much to do as I left everything from the last trip. Been cycling to work and picked up another set of wheels so I haven't needed the truck. Looks like we'll see all tomorrow!!!

Mike - I hope you get that ice maker in. Since the night on the chat I've been looking forward to my scotch on the rocks. With my pop-up and no freezer, I went through hell to enjoy a nice glass this summer on our trip. :)

RE: Well, the TC is sold

Not wanting to give up the 'tent' camping is why we bought a pop-up. It made the world of difference on our last trip not having to set up camp each night. In route or during daily adventures, a quick crank and we were set for lunch and more. The fridge was much easier than buying ice everyday and enjoying a cold beer while parked amongst others.
While traveling. the small tent was too small during rain events and the bigger tent was a p.i.a. to set up as it took 2 people. Now we are set up and cooking within 10 minutes.
Sorry to hear that it did not work for you and you experienced such bad luck. We still use the tent on an occasional hike / camping trip.
Enjoy the outdoors!!!

RE: Closing a Pop-Up TC?

Too bad you aren't going to be at the NorthEast Fall TC Rally in NY. We've been considering having a special seminar on how to close a pop-up.
Maybe we'll have to video tape our seminar and place it on You Tube :B
I would say MOST of the time I am able to close mine from inside the TC. I open the rear door. I crank down the top about 1/3 of the way, reach in over the bed and give the canvas a tug inside. Lower it about 1/2 way and reach in again. By this time it starts to fall inward (as long as there are no crazy winds. I support the roof with one hand and check the sides and back in the rear 1/2 of the camper. Close as far as I can while still able to reach in and make sure it is lining up right on the bed. As I crawl out I check the sides and rear once more. Then go out side and give a final check. Final tuck to make sure not in the closure. Pull down and latch the front, double check the rear, pull down and latch the back. Takes 2-3 minutes tops.
